Setting realistic expectations for yourself
- This is an underlying problem that I think most of us have.
- It leads to feeling defeated and like a failure.
- Kind of like losing weight
- Or our expectations for our children (in comparison to rational adult understanding).
- Why do I have this expectation?
- Where did it come from?
- Is it based on my wishes or my needs?
- What purpose does it serve?
- Am I being fair?
- Gratitude is a great tool when trying to release expectations.
- Often I find myself trying to go into situations without expectations or inadvertently setting expectations
- Like everything else there’s a balance between pushing out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself and then being realistic.
- Shifting expectations can take a weight off our shoulders
- Kate Northrup’s book about shifting our mindset from time poverty to time plentiful. This is another way we can use the abundance vs. scarcity mindset.
