Setting Realistic Expectations for Yourself

Setting realistic expectations for yourself

  • This is an underlying problem that I think most of us have.
  • It leads to feeling defeated and like a failure.
  • Kind of like losing weight
  • Or our expectations for our children (in comparison to rational adult understanding).
  • Why do I have this expectation?
  • Where did it come from?
  • Is it based on my wishes or my needs?
  • What purpose does it serve?
  • Am I being fair?
  • Gratitude is a great tool when trying to release expectations.
    • Often I find myself trying to go into situations without expectations or inadvertently setting expectations
  • Like everything else there’s a balance between pushing out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself and then being realistic.
  • Shifting expectations can take a weight off our shoulders
  • Kate Northrup’s book about shifting our mindset from time poverty to time plentiful. This is another way we can use the abundance vs. scarcity mindset.
